Brett Favre. Is he the greatest of all time?

by Sportsdork36

Brett Favre was drafted a no name player out of University of Southern Mississippi, in the 2nd round by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1991 NFL Draft. He was later traded to the Green Bay Packers. He was on the bench for the first 3 games of the season when he got his call. He has started in every game since.

He has played in 241 regular season games and 261 total games (including playoffs). He has lead his team from behind many times to win a game. He has been named League MVP 3 times. Has lead his team to 2 Super Bowls, winning the first and losing the second to the Denver Broncos. He owns his rival Chicago Bears with a record of 22 wins and 8 loses with a 12-2 record in Chicago. His longest pass of 99 yards came against the bears. He then thrives in the big games.

He now holds many NFL records including most career pass completions (5,101) Most Career Regular season Wins by a quarterback (150). Most seasons with 30 or more touchdown passes (8). As of right now he is about 3000 yard off of breaking the career passing yard record of 61,361. The only knock I see against him is that he has only led his teams to 2 Super Bowls, and he only has one ring. He is still a remarkable QB. I like the way that he handles himself on and off the field.

In 2004, he helped the Katrina victims by sending food and water and materials to help rebuild. He always seems to come up big in games when something bad has happened to his family. His father died the day before they were to play a Monday night game in Oakland. Nobody was sure he was going to play and he came out and led his team to victory by throwing 4 touchdown passes.

He is absolutely amazing and my feeling is that there will never be another quarterback like him. I may be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but I love watching Brett Favre play. I would take him on my team no matter how old he is . What are your thoughts about him being the greatest of all time? If you do not think he is one of the greatest of all time, who is?

I think that he very well might be, and if he's not, he's certainly up there in the top five. This is my top five in no particular order: Favre, Montana, Unitas, Marino, and Elway, with two certain gentlemen currently playing in Indianapolis and New England knocking at the door.

No way, not a chance. He's one of the best, but not THE best.

Not a chance? He is gonna own the record books soon and he is a winner. I don't know if he is the best but he deserves consideration.

oh no doubt he deserves consideration but there are two quaterbacks coming up behind him that currently play for Indy and NE. Peyton Manning alone has already shattered one of Marino's records and is 5th on the list for the record Farve just took and he's still got time left in the League. One of the best, sure. The Best...I can't even give him that.

IMO - Joe Montana is #1. With Ryan Leaf a close, close second....  : >

I don't think Favre is the greatest (another knock on him is the number of Ints he has thrown), but he is certainly one of the best ever. Tylersalt's list is a reasonable starting place for a best-ever discussion.

Statistically, he is up there near the top but overall, I wouldn't put him at #1.

Brett Favre had a lot less talent on the team when he won a Super Bowl. Montana had Rice. Elway had Terrell Davis. Marino never won a Super Bowl. Favre had Dorsey Levens and Antonio Freeman. Are you kidding me? In his heyday, Favre could turn anyone into a Pro Bowler.

I agree Brett has made alot of people stars. What did freeman do when he left Green Bay? What did Dorey leavens do whe he left? Nothing. Edgar Bennett was another one. I think that if you trade brady for Favre, the Patriots would still be winning Superbowls and Brady would be bad. Manning is in the same boat. Look what he did with a bad team. He may break all the records, but he did not make the players around him better like Favre does.

Favre had no talent? The Packers had the best defense in the NFL the year they won the Super Bowl. And that's what it takes for Favre to win a Super Bowl because he's so turnover prone.

That's why from a pure value standpoint Favre doesn't belong in the conversation about the Top 10 QBs. Statistically speaking he's a top 5 QB, but if I was asked to grab a QB to build a team around, I wouldn't choose Favre in my top 5.

As for the Pats winning titles without Brady, are you kidding me? Prior to this year, Brady had 0 above average WRs to throw to. And he won three titles. Manning has as many titles as Favre and has never had the type of defense Favre had when he won his MVP awards.

Favre just broke a record that is a longevity record. Let's not get carried away and call him the greatest ever.

I think he is. Broke the record with shitty recievers. He'd have at least 4 or 5 championships if he had a Jerry Rice type of reciever.

We need to ask someone without any prejudice on the subject whatsoever. Where's John Madden at?

I just hope someday Brett Favre gets some recognition and some attention. I've hardly ever heard of this guy. I turn on ESPN and I never see him.

I'm offended by the premise that Favre is "the greatest". I demand an edit. Go block him Tylersalt.

It depends on how you look at it. Statistically, Marino and Favre are among the best ever, but Montana trumps them in the championship category. Montana may have had more offensive talent around him, but how many QB's can lead their team on a 85+ yard drive to win a Super Bowl like Montana did in '89? There are countless other situations when Montana would pull off unthinkable plays to win games (Ex: 1981 NFC Championship Game).

I'm not a big follower of stats in the NFL but while I was there(Wisconsin) I did start to follow the game and watched many games. Gradually I became a Packers fan. Even though I was there only for a year, it was the way I felt and saw Favre play for the Packers and how important he was to the team. I think he is a legend no doubt.

Brett Favre the greatest?? Are you kidding me??!! He may be great, but he's no Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, or John Elway. He's also not as good as Tom Brady, Steve Young, or Peyton Manning. And don't give me any garbage about him having less talent than the others. John Elway threw to 59 different receivers, most of them practically anonymous, during his career. He handed off to running backs like Sammy Winder and Steve Sewell. Ever heard of them? I didn't think so. He took them to three Super Bowls, though.
