Born on April 11, 1964 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Bret Saberhagen (Bret William Saberhagen) played for the Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 16 year career. Saberhagen broke into the bigs on April 4, 1984 with the Kansas City Royals, and put up a 3.48 ERA in 157.2 innings pitched in 1984, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bret Saberhagen's best season was 1989, when he posted a 2.16 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 193 batters.
