My points
- CONCACAF. So we are very good in CONCACAF competition, but that's not saying much. Never has a CONCACAF team made a World Cup Final, very rarely do any of them make it past the quarterfinals for the teams that qualify, so that's not saying a lot when the US owns Canada, Guatemala, and Jamaica. That is not the same point as saying that Italy owns France, England, and Sweden.
- World Cup 2002. I hate to say this, but it was a fluke run. We only beat 2 teams in the competition in Portugal and Mexico. We beat Mexico all the time, but Portugal has a history of underachieving. So that's nothing. Competitive? Yes. Fluke? Yes.
- FIFA Rankings. How the bloody heck did they figure that the US was better than Argentina before the World Cup!!! They are now ranked 16th I believe, when they should be in 40th. We always pride ourselves at being the best at something. Well, we as Americans need to face the fact that we aren't good at everything.
- Landon Donovan. So he scored 34 goals. Big deal! He can't perform at a world stage, when it matters the most. The last 4 goals in international matches, have been penalties. Penalty kicks can be converted by a 9 year old. It's a matter of luck. Stop labeling him as one of the best US soccer players ever.
One way to improve is face tougher opponents, don't get cocky when you've never won a FIFA world tourney at any level, stop depending on one star. But most importantly, be humble.
I know Ibearg is going to get ticked off when he reads this, but it's mostly true. The US isn't that great a soccer team.
