Breaking News: Rocket to Yankees

During the game against the Seattle Mariners today, Roger Clemens announced on the stadium message board that he would be returning to the New York Yankees this season. Financial terms are not yet available for the reported offer, and there is no word yet as to when Clemens will be in game shape, but the money must have been ridiculous for him to have made a decision this early on.
Most speculation thus far has been that out of three teams considered to be in the running for Roger's services, the Boston Red Sox would have the best chance of landing him, considering that so far they have been far and away better than the Yankees or the Houston Astros. He must feel that he can give the Yankees the most help, although it seems like he'll have to do a lot to bring a championship back to the Bronx considering the problems in the bullpen there.
So I ask you: Is this the right choice for Clemens? Is it going to make a difference in the AL East? How much better does this make the Yankees?
