Breaking News: NFL Finds New Thing to B&*ch About

Well this is the latest thing the NFL wants to protest did the trick. It has been reported that helmet-to-helmet hits could result in an ejection. This is only for flagrant helmet-to-helmets, not accidental, but that's determined by the refs. Here's one report of this story:

The new policy was outlined Saturday in a memo from supervisor of officials Mike Pereira, which was obtained by the Associated Press. It followed two fines last weekend for what the officiating department had determined were hits against players in defenseless positions. One fine was against Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry, who will forfeit a game check of $16,764 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New York Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens. The other was against Philadelphia defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey, who was fined his game check of $21,176 for spearing Dallas' Julius Jones. Sportsline'

You know what, this idea sounds okay. For me, instead of ejecting blatant offenders, eject them, fine, and possibly suspend them. Good job NFL, now shut the hell up and leave us alone. I'm tired of hearing you guys complain, protest, or fine someone.

Thoughts on this one? Did Commissioner Adolf Goodell do something right?

"Flagrant" is about as a vague as determining "Excessive" (end zone celebrations)

Yes, dam those NFL people are brutal. They actually want to prevent severe concussions and paralysis? Those Gestapo BASTARDS!

And how the hell do you incidentally tackle while leading with your head? Isn't it YOUR head? Don't you control where your head is going?

I think this is a good idea.

there's not one good reason for tackling with your head. Not one. I guarantee it. Rawbeezeitz is totally right. There are already way to many concussions this year, and all they want to do is make sure that NFL vets don't end up like former Pats linebacker Ted Johnson who at 37 or thereabout, has the brain condition of a 70 or 80 year old. This guy has yet to see his 40th birthday, and he's already suffering from early stages of Alzheimers and chronic depression. All because of several concussions from playing. I'm sorry that SSR thinks that trying to make sure their employees aren't all going to die before 60 is such a bad thing

Look, if someone is leading with his head going for the QB's chest, and the QB bends down, who is to blame?

All I said was they constantly come up with rules and fines every other day, I never criticized this move.

to say that they're bitching about it, and then to call him Adolf Goodell doesn't really imply that you're happy with the move

You don't lead with your head, EVER!!!!!!! Unless, of course, you hate your spinal column.

But you don't control what the QB (or other player) will do.

but again, for it to be helmet to helmet colision, both of them have to lead with their heads, so the defender is still wrong.

So basically if the QB leads with his head, he slides head first, what is the tackler going to do once he is trying to tackle?

Why would a QB be launching his helmet at a defender's helmet? I think this goes allways, for tacklers, ball carriers, and blockers. Nobody should be leading with their helmet.

Seriously, what is up with all the comparisons of Goodell to Hitler/Nazis/dictatorships? He runs the league--he is supposed to make these decisions. Would you prefer Gary Bettman?

Very good point. I'd say he's more of a Franco than a Hitler.

To me honest, the hit Ramsey made was pretty poor...I believe Madden and Michaels suggested a fine...and I think they got it right...
