Breaking News: Eli Manning out at least a month

by Behbigben15

This just came in: Eli Manning will miss at least a month, because of a seperated shoulder he suffered last night against the Dallas Cowboys.  So, apparently Eli will have to wait a while until he gets another shot at proving his critics wrong on the topic of him being a draft bust. Is the New York Giants' season over already?  I don't know. I think the Giants need to go out and sign recently released free agent QB Byron Leftwich.  If they don't, then the Giants may struggle to win games with backup QB Anthony Wright, or Jared Lorenzen.  The Giants RB Brandon Jacobs was also injured in last night's 45-35 loss to the Cowboys.  Jacobs suffered a knee injury and will miss 3-5 weeks, they will have to count on new RB Reuben Droughns who they just picked up this offseason.

The Giants are not the only team to get hit with the injury bug this week. Here is a long list of this week's injuries:

  • Kevin Everett- Suffered a severe spinal injury, and may end up being paralyzed because of it.  Unsure how long he will miss, but obviously he will miss the rest of the season.
  • Ko Simpson- Simpson was the second of the three players the Bills lost yesterday, he broke his left ankle, and is out indefinitely.
  • Jason Webster- The third of the three injured Bills players broke his forearm and is also out indefintely.
  • Mike Brown- The first of two Bears players to suffer season-ending knee injuries.
  • Dusty Dvoracek- The second of the two Bears players to suffer a season-ending knee injury.
  • Orlando Pace- This is not surprising, once again the STL O-lineman will miss the rest of the season with a torn right rotator cuff.
  • Carnell "Cadillac" Williams- Suffered bruised ribs, and is questionable for next Sunday.
  • Jason Ferguson- Tore his right biceps tendon, and will miss the rest of the season.
  • Lito Sheppard- Out at least one game with a sprained knee ligament.
  • Chester Taylor- Receiving treatment for an injury he suffered which was said to be a bruised hip, around his oblique, a muscle near the lower part of the rib cage.
  • Jon Jansen- Dislocated his right ankle, and is out for the rest of the season.

Please pray for Kevin Everett, who is likely to be paralyzed after his helmet-to-helmet tackle yesterday against the Denver Broncos.  His career is likely over bfore it was even really started. My prayers are with him.

Did anyone here that? That was the sound of me repeatedly smashing my head into my desk over and over again

Actually I thought that was the sound of Tom Coughlin putting up the "For Sale" sign in his front yard.

on a bright note a new record for fattest qb to throw a td pass is within reach... if he ever does throw for a touchdown.

I thought Eli looked pretty damn good yesterday. I think this is a shame. The Giants were bad with Eli Manning. Without him they are the Oakland Raiders.

No... the Raiders have (or are supposed to have) some sort of defense. They are more like a really bad mixture of Cincinnati and Cleveland (No Defense and No Offense)

I would have to agree with MJD. I really thought the Giants were a Super Bowl caliber team when they started 6-2 a year ago. They have fallen off dramatically in the nine games since then.

Goodbye season (not that it was going to be successful anyway). We're now playing for a high draft pick.

This may actually be an upgrade for the Giants.

is Lorenzan going to throw 5 TD next week?

That's crazy. Manning played very well Sunday night, and Lorenzen is a fourth year pro who had never attempted an NFL pass until last night. For those of you who haven't seen him, he's a 285 pound (no that's not a typo) left handed quarterback. I don't think he's particularly well suited to the new short-pass attack that Kevin Gilbride has installed, and frankly I think he's better suited to playing fullback than quarterback. Field presence? Last night with the Giants trying to rally late in the game, he took off running on 4th and 3, only to slide two yards short of the marker. If there's ever a time to put your head down and take the blow rather than sliding, it's when your a 285-pound backup. Two of the Giants next three games are against division rivals Washington and Philly. If they have to play those games without Manning and without Jacobs, there season is over.

The overweight quarterback can never be seen as an upgrade. Maybe the Giants denial is a sign of the report being false (we can only hope).

Droughns will NOT be the feature back for the Giants. Derrick Ward, formerly of the Jets, and who had 89 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards in last night's game, will be the starter. Droughns was not the #2 man before the Jacobs injury.

Droughns was moved to fullback during training camp, partly to replace the injured Jim Finn, but partly because Ward had passed him on the depth chart. If Ward gets injured (which has been his history), I'm pretty sure they'd move Droughns back to halfback before they go with the 4th back, rookie Ahmad Bradshaw.

This report is false. Eli Manning has an elbow injury but it has been confirmed by him that it is a bruise of the ac joint, the injury is a day to day one and it has been left up to him when he will start throwing. He says he plans on throwing wednesday and is sees no reason he will miss the Green Bay game. http://www.g...ory_id=25865

ESPN's report quotes both Manning and Coughlin as denying that the QB has a separated shoulder. However, a bruised AC (acromioclavicular) joint *is* a Type 1 shoulder separation. Regardless, I think there's good reason to think Manning may not play this weekend.

I've had chronic shoulder issues that included sprains, mild dislocates, bruises, etc. Hurts like hell. If Eli steps on the field this weekend, he's got guts for at least trying.

I would not mind the Giants having Eli sit out against the Packers. Even if it costs us a game (I think they have a chance against Green Bay with out Eli.) it is better that risking Eli long term. Especially with how good he was looking last night. I have heard that the injury is not one that will be affected by throwing because it is strictly a contact injury.

That's the shame of it. The younger Manning had a pretty good game going for himself and then gets injured. Tom Coughlin looked 10 times more frazzled than usual.

Coughlin is a head coach and always has on the same exact "what the hell was that?" look on, you should know you are the coach. I like Coughlins tough rules but his gameday manner is pathetic.
