I just saw on Sportcenter, that SP Dontrelle Willis, and 3B Miguel Cabrera were acquired by the Detroit Tigers. The two were dealt in an 8-player deal which sent 6 to Florida, and 2 to Detroit.
This is a BIG addition for Detroit, and may actually get them back into the playoff race.
Detroit gets- Miguel Cabrera, Dontrelle Willis
Florida gets- Andrew Miller, Cameron Maybin, Mike Rabelo, and three prospects
Detroit's updated lineup looks a little something like this:
SP- Dontrelle Willis, Jeremy Bonderman, Justin Verlander, Kenny Rogers, Nate Robertson
1B- Carlos Guillen
2B- Placido Polanco
3B- Miguel Cabrera
SS- Edgar Renteria
OF- Marcus Thames, Curtis Granderson, Magglio Ordonez
DH- Gary Sheffield
The deal is expected to be announced Tuesday night when the physicals and paperwork are completed.
"If it does happen, obviously they're getting two very good players," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who managed the Marlins in 2006. "Miguel Cabrera is one of the finest hitters in the game. He can do so many things with a bat, whether you want him to hit a home run for you, you want to hit and run, work the count, get on base. And Dontrelle Willis has been one of the premier lefties in the National League."
Cabrera earned $7.4 million this past season and was due to make more than $10 million in 2008. Willis made $6.45 million in 2007 on a one-year contract and will be arbitration eligible again this season.
Willis was on vacation when he heard the news.
"I'm in Mexico right now with my family. I'm kind of busy," he told the AP.
