Braves New World

ESPN is reporting the Red Sox and Braves working on an Andruw Jones trade for Coco Crisp, Craig Hansen, and a prospect. They then add that the Braves want the prospect to be Jon Lester! Lester is the best LHP prospect that the Sox have had since Bruce Hurst, a LHP who can touch 92-93 mph, and has several 'out' pitches, including his cutter and curveball. No, he isn't yet a top of the rotation guy, be he projects to have that potential.

Sure, the Sox should trade two of their future cornerstones for Jones. Maybe field Crisp's rolling the ball into the infield twice yesterday got the ball rolling.

Jones is a terrific outfielder, but the Red Sox most pressing issue (like most teams)is stabilizing their pitching. Perhaps the Sox will have to do some shuffling of their outfielders with Nixon hurt, but they will go NOWHERE without improving the bottom end of the rotation, which Jones doesn't answer.

Also, Hansen has a 1.10 ERA in his first inning of relief. If the Sox are that desperate, they could try to convert Hansen to the closer and bring Papelbon into the rotation, while stretching him out in the bullpen.

Sometimes the best trades you make are the ones you pass on.

Yeah, you do not try and convert a closer after midseason to a starter, especially a rookie. That is not going to happen. Papelbon has arguably been the teams MVP up to this point. Without him they would not be in first place. If you take him out of the closers role right now, they have no shot.

As much as I would hate to see Jones leave ATL the idea of bring in a solid pitcher for the future to rebuild that staff around is very interesting. Jones is finally getting older and while still a great fielder he is not what he used to be a few yrs ago and Im not sure he can maintain those power numbers at the plate he had last season.

There is no way though that the Red Sox trade Jon Lester in that deal. If they trade him, in essence they are trading their number three starter on a team that already needs more starting pitching, and please dont tell me they can do this now that David Wells is coming back.

There's no way the Braves are trading Jones! His all-around play is one of the only things that keeps them alive in the NL. This trade would never happen from either side's point of view.

This is way too complicated to happen in one day, let alone a few hours. Don't count on it going down. Some low level reporter somewhere was bored and started this rumor. Many one of our own? :-)

Jones is the most complete player in all of baseball. he has power, speed, incredible defense. coco crisp is no where near the player jones is. bad deal

I don't think anyone is disupting that Jones is a much better player than coco crisp. However, like I said, it would be equally as bad of a deal for the Red Sox because they not only give up Crisp, they give up Hansen and Lester. Giving up Lester at this point in his career would be absolutely awful. not to mention he is holding up the rotation right now with Beckett and Schilling.
