Brandon Jacobs: The future?

by user Simms1156

Brandon Jacobs will be taking over the starting runningback for the New York Giants, for this reason many "experts" are predicting the Giants to finish third or fourth in their division this year. The departure of Tiki Barber will hurt the team because a player like Tiki is impossible to completely replace, however; Jacobs will inject the offence with a sense of excitement that can not be measured statistically. When Jacobs gets the ball he punishes defenses and runs with excitement, something Tiki didnt have this past year because his mind was already on being a reporter and making childrens books. I dont blame Tiki for this but Jacobs is young and determined.

A major misconception about Brandon Jacobs is that he is nothing more that a powerback. This is a ridiculous assessment based just on size, the fact that he is 6'4" and 256 lbs would obviously lead most to believe that he is a powerback but this guy is fast if you watch some of his preseason runs you can see his breakaway speed. (This speed is yet to be on display in a real game because of the fact that he was almost exclusively given the ball in short yardage situations) Just look on youtube.com and look up Brandon Jacobs preseason to see his speed. He also runs a verified 4.50 in the 40 yard dash. Also by the 4th quarter teams are not going to want to tackle him anymore after having to drag him down 20-25 times through the first 3 quarters. Jacobs has the fire and desire you like to see in young players which was evident in his interview on cold pizza a few months back, he was quoted as saying "I will be the starting runningback for the Giants this year" when asked about the possibillity of a runningback being brought in to carry the load he responded with "They can bring in whoever they want but they will be paying a backup, I have been guaranteed a chance at the starting job by the coaching staff and I am going to be the starting runningback.

In conclusion I think that Brandon Jacobs is going to bring smashmouth football back to the New York Giants and return them to greatness. So remember when Jacobs is tearing up the leaugue that you heard it here first

He doesnt need to step into his shoes, the offence will be catered to Jacobs he is going to bring energy to the team and wear defenses down. Evertime Jacobs is in the game defenses go 7 or 8 in the box even when its not short yardage situation. With that happening the playaction pass should be deadly

The reason people are picking the giants for 3rd or 4th isn't just brandon jacobs...

This team finished 3rd last year...and how did they improve...they lost their best player and...and... retained a coach that...is a complete jackass...that's why the "experts" are picking them to finished 3rd or 4th

Secondly..."Just look on youtube.com and look up Brandon Jacobs preseason to see his speed"...its preseason, he plays against a bunch of backups and young players...he's going to look faster because they're slower.

I've seen Jacobs play and I'm one of those few people that think he's awesome. He reminds me of a young Jerome Bettis. Not only is he a power back but he also finds the holes. The problem with a lot of power backs is they think they can rush through 3 400-pound linemen and they can't so they end up picking up 2 or 3 yards at a time. Jacobs actually looks for the hole and powers through. I think he will be great this year but I'm not positive.

Stick a fork in both the Giants and Jacobs. They are on the verge of hitting rock bottom. RB, surprisingly, is not their most glaring hole or need. QB, OL, DL, LB, K, PR are all positions in greater need for the G-men.

Ok I dont see how we need a qb we have Eli who, though inconsistent, can be lights out when hes on. defensive line? Osi is a good player but he was hurt last year and it seems like people seem to forget about him, Strahan is an alltime great and if he stays healthy he is still a force. Even if Strahan is hurt again we have Justin Tuck to step in, if you doubt his abilities just ask Ladanian Tomlinson (I think the interview is on youtube) he said if Notre Dame keeps making players as fast as Tuck he is "in trouble". Linebacker? We have Antonio Pierce who is a PRO BOWL MLB on the outside we have Kiwanuka who showed last year that he has the ability to drop back into coverage when given the oppurtunity to play the "joker" position. ON the other side is recently signed Kawika Mitchell He was underrated because he played on the Chiefs lackluster defense. Over the last two years he has been a solid tackler with 107 tackles each year. Kicker we do need but I am more confident with Lawrence Tynes or Josh Huston than I was with Feely ( oh no Seattle memories) pr? Rw mcquarters is a punt returner, Aaron Ross was a little bit of an electrifying punt returner while in college, Michael Jennings has showed aptitude in this area, and it is an area where Sinorice Moss has the speed and agility to accell

btw I never said Jacobs is better than Tiki. But he is different and maybe better suited for what our offensive philosophy should be
