Branch Decides not to Take Part in Mandatory Minicamp

9
Vote

New England Patriots WR Deion Branch will not participate in the Patriots' mandatory minicamp. Branch skipped a charity golf event on Monday and is rumored to be unhappy with his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of the 2006 season. Branch hopes to get $12 million guaranteed. If the Pats fail to sign Branch to a new deal, Branch will likely become a hold-out.

Branch is not really that good, the Pats lack a truely great Wide Reciever. This could be the end of the New England dynasty if Branch's example is followed.

Holding out from the Pats is like insisting on not going to a party because they aren't serving your favorite brand of beer. You're going to have fun, but you have to make some sacrifices...Just play out the rest of your contract, holding out is ridiculous sometimes, he's not even that good (Relative term).

a) I think Branch is grossly underrated. If the Pats threw to WRs more, he'd be a top 10 WR.

b) If you were a Patriot who wanted to remain one, given their history, wouldn't you do this too? This may be the only way he gets them to negotiate with him.

I disagree. I think Branch gets too much credit. We will see how good he is without as much help. Previously, he had receivers of equal talent around him (I agree, he's good, but not that good)(Patton, Givens) and they allowed him a chance to play. But he's not a #1 receiver, then again, time will tell. I never like players who hold out in general. Its not as if you need to go on strike in order to get a decent wage, they all make a lot of $$. The thing is, and i've seen it before, you know the patriots may be able to get by without him and if so, i doubt they will resign him. Given the pats history, they may just cut him...
