Bowden Bowl Has Become A Bore

It wasn’t that long ago where the Florida State-Clemson matchup would grab national attention and headlines all throughout the college landscape. Back in 1999 when these two ACC opponents renewed their annual meeting on the gridiron it was in epic proportions…A can’t miss event if you will, a media whirlwind. It’s not like everyday football/sports fans in general can witness a father vs. son coaching matchup. This upcoming Saturday the game dubbed the “Bowden Bowl” will take place in Tallahasse this time around, but outside of Seminoles & Tigers fans, and the Bowden clan of course, has this annual Bowden Bowl become a big-time bore?
With all the plethora of fantastic college football matchups this Saturday, I was unaware this game was scheduled to take place, until the fine folks at LastRowSports.com did some excellent research. Why no media coverage for this one…Where you at ESPN? Instead you guys are trying to hype up & make us believe the USC-Nebraska is going to be worth watching…Sure, until halftime, maybe? Thanks for ramming it down our throats, but Please Stop! I think we’re all gagging on it! "The novelty has worn off," Tommy Bowden said of the matchup between his Tigers and father Bobby's Florida State. "When they won the first five, it wore off pretty quick." I didn’t know this was actually possible, but I agree 100 percent with sonny boy on this one. Now going into the seventh year of this, sure it’s still son vs. dad, but does the phrase, “Been there, Done that” hold any value.
Perhaps this also might have to do something with how dear ole dad has handed sonny boy so many whoopings over the years, and this matchup has virtually been one sided for the Seminoles. Let’s be real here, to sit down and watch this game on Saturday, knowing full well the last time the Tigers won there was 1989, is like waiting a one-legged duck to stop swimming in a circle…Not going to happen. Sure Troy almost pulled off the shocker of the decade last week, but that was a sandwich game…Little difficult to get up for the Trojans five days after beating the Hurricanes.
Although what must this big like for the Queen of Tallahassee…The one, the only, Ann Bowden. She’ll tell you to your face that she hates this week every year, but does she, I doubt it. If she doesn’t remind of a person that loves of this attention, I don’t know what does. People bowing down to her and kissing her fat, white, old, wrinkly ass, parading around in a homemade half Florida State, half Clemson apparel. For her, this is her moment in the spotlight…And don’t think for a minute she’s not enjoying every second of it…I give a shit what she says! She sure does love her high horse…Why doesn’t she take Chief Osceola this week & ride that damn horse? After all she’s on a high horse already!
So here we are at Bowden Bowl VII (VII means 7 for those that can’t understand Roman numerials…Must be grads of FSU), and while the records are 5-2 or 2-5 whichever Bowden you cheer for, if any…I don’t know why anybody would? This time around, the marquee lights are shining on different parts of the country this Saturday…A long way from Tallahassee. What a far cry from the first meeting in 1999, not only because Florida State was No. 1 and playing just another game for them on their way to a national title, but because Bobby was on the verge of his 300th coaching victory. If the game doesn’t have the same feel to it as Tom Cruise’s acting career I don’t know what does. Sorry Bobby, Tommy, Ann, & Tom, I’m going to pass up your family reunion this time around…Over the years it has become a Big Ole Bore to me. There’s a lot more intriguing games on this Saturday’s schedule to get my blood pumping!
