Boston is the New Minnesota

I went to sleep last night with ESPN’s Steve Phillips, Buster Olney, Tim Kurkjian, and Karl Ravech telling me that the Twins and Yankees were meeting, and Phillips specifically saying, “The Yankees know they need to put Kennedy in this deal and will.”

I woke up this morning and heard that the Twins had asked for Jon Lester’s medical records (most likely more about his leukemia than his arm), and that a trade was imminent and could be reported as early as this morning. While I don’t doubt that, I don’t see a trade yet.

Quick on the Yankees: It is said that they are now turning their attention to Dan Haren. Billy Beane has asked for the same package if not more for Dan Haren that the Twins asked for Johan Santana. If the Yankees make that trade for Haren, then I laugh. Haren has no track record, and didn’t pitch as well down the stretch.

Back to the Twins: Here is what LENIII and others are reporting. Twins Trade: Johan Santana Red Sox Trade: Jon Lester, Jed Lowrie, Coco Crisp, and Justin Masterson.

Rotoworld reported that Ellsbury could possibly be inserted for Crisp, but that is NO GIVEN.

This would give Boston- Johan Santana, David Ortiz, Randy Moss, and Kevin Garnett.

Twins Speculation: (Note: This is all speculation, and while I hate to do this on message boards…this is my blog.) -The Twins have been talking to the Astros about Joe Nathan. Who could come to Minnesota for Nathan? Well, SS Adam Everett has been mentioned in every Astro trade since 2005, so he is always a possibility. 2B/OF Chris Burke has been mentioned in trade rumors also. He could be a starting 2B or CF. Also, the Astros have a little CF named Hunter Pence who the Twins could land for Nathan. -Another destination I could see for Joe is Chicago. No, not the White Sox, but the Cubs. They are moving their closer Ryan Dempster to the rotation, and who knows if Kerry Wood will hold up. The Twins need a CF and the Cubs have Felix Pie and Eric Patterson. Either one, along with a Sean Marshall and/or Ronny Cedeno could be enough for us.

-Let’s say the Twins get Coco Crisp. If they aren’t sold on him, they could always turn around and trade him to a team that needs a CF. Philly could use a CF, and the Twins could use a 3B like Wes Helms. How about the Dodgers? They need a CF also. -Or how about this one. The Twins could trade Crisp to Baltimore for disgruntled (in Baltimore, not in life) 3B Melvin Mora. He is a right-handed bat that could flourish as a 7-ish type hitter.

This was reported on ESPN: The Twins may trade Boof Bonser and Juan Rincon for Edwin Encarnacion, a 3B from Cincinnati. Trading with the Reds could be easier than other teams because Wayne Krivsky (a former Twins Assistant GM) is their GM.

Don’t Blog That: Blake Wheeler does attend class! Blake attended his Applied Econ Class drinking Caribou Coffee.

Seems like an infringement upon privacy for the Twins to request (and receive) anyone's medical records.

Not only is it standard practice, but, according to the MLPA, a requirement. Recovering from cancer or any other illness/injury outside the norm (translated: on field related) protects both teams in case of a recurrence.

I don't think so. It's just like if a player has an injury...the other team is allowed to check out those players.

Minnesota needs a CF as much or more than anybody - don't see any reason why they would turn around and deal Crisp. If Ellsbury is in the deal, both Lester and Crisp come out, according to most sources.

I want Jacoby Ellsbury to stay. So, unless Coco is going, I don't want Santana since we are still pretty good on pitching. (Although I'd kinda miss Coco too)

Not only that, I believe there was some "issues" between Belichick and Brad Childress before the season started regarding free agents and such. Personally, as a Sox fan, I would rather see Erik Bedard in Fenway than Santana. With Bedard, you get a younger pitcher for potentially less money/players. I think he was still 3rd in the AL in K's, even sitting out the last month. Also, Bedard was more effective against the Yankees than Santana was this year. I like Lester, but I think with his 5 inning average, it would be a good move to ship him for a power lefty.

The whole hot stove cooking is ridiculous. Yes, we just saw the big trade between the Marlins and Tigers, but the Twins shopping around a good chunk of their roster? They have got to be kidding me. Especially this whole "sweepstakes" involving Johan Santana. And Boston just HAD to get involved with that, too. Like they don't have enough pitching. That whole Red Sox vs. Yankees arms race continues and continues...

Sorry dude. Philly won't trade Helms, they're in the market for a 3B themselves right now. Also, Mora makes way too much money for the Twins to acquire him ($11M). They're having a hard time swallowing Crisp's $4-5M.
