Josh Beckett pitched 7 strong innings and even contributed a solo home run as the Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-4. Beckett was cruising along until he was put back out there in the 8th inning. A J.T. Snow error, a walk, and a 3 run shot by Ryan Howard later, and Beckett was out of the game after going 7 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 4 while continuing his trend of allowing the longball on the road, with 2 homeruns this time around. He improved to 6-1 on the year. He was also the offensive hero of the game going 2-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, and the home run.
Brett Myers got the loss to fall to 2-2 after a tough 6th inning starting with a Jimmy Rollins error that lead to 4 runs. He allowed 6 runs (just 2 earned) in 6.1 IP.
Kevin Youkilis went 2-5 with 2 runs playing third base and back in the leadoff role after a day off. Wily Mo Pena also pitched in 2 hits for the Sox. David Bell had 2 hits for the Phils. Chase Utley and Alex Gonzalez had home runs in addition to Beckett and Howard.
