The Philadelphia Phillies stop a 5 game skid and avoid the sweep by beating the Boston Red Sox 10-5, also giving Boston their first loss in the new Citizen's Bank Park. Cory Lidle gave them 6 solid innings, allowing just 3 runs, to improve to 4-4 on the year. Bobby Abreu gave them most of the offense that they need going 3-3 on the day with 2 walks and 5 RBI. His 3 run homer in the 6th put the game out of reach for the Sox.
Lenny DiNardo, who hadn't appeared in a game since May 7, was roughed up for 4 runs in 2 innings. He wasn't able to get an out in the third inning when he was lifted for Abe Alvarez. Alverez allowed homers to Abreu and Ryan Howard and was less than impressive with 4 runs allowed in 3 innings.
The Sox made am attempt to come back in the late innings, getting 6 hits and 2 runs over the last two frames, but it was far too little, far too late.
Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis homered for the Sox. The top of the Phillies order went 8-12 as Jimmy Rollins was 2-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored, Chase Utley was 3-5 with 2 runs, and Abreu was 3-3.
