Beckett Beats Rain, Braves for 10th W
The Boston Red Sox (45-25, 1st in AL East) outlasted a rain delay and the Atlanta Braves (38-34, 2nd in NL East), defeating them 4-0 at Turner Field. The Red Sox increased their Interleague record to 8-5 on the year, while Atlanta fell to 4-6. The Red Sox have already lost 3 more interleague games than they did all of the 2006 season.

Josh Beckett (W, 10-1) rebounded nicely from his only poor outing of the year against the Colorado Rockies last time around and pitched 6 shutout innings, striking out 3 and walking 2 while allowing only 4 hits. He was knocked out of the game before the 7th inning by a rain delay, at which point Kyle Snyder, Hideki Okajima, and Jonathan Papelbon took over and allowed only one hit over the final three frames (a single by Kelly Johnson off of Snyder). Tim Hudson (L, 6-5) pitched decently enough, but a home run to David Ortiz in the fourth got the Red Sox started. They added two more in the fifth on a double by Beckett and a single by Dustin Pedroia, and one in the sixth from Alex Cora that would finally chase Hudson. Hudson has lost four of his last five decisions.
The Braves hitters only managed 5 hits on the night, one by Willie Harris and two each by Johnson and former Red Sox disappointment Edgar Renteria. Andruw Jones' troubles continued, as he went 0-4 in the 6th spot in the lineup to drop his batting average to a dangerously low .202 on the year.
- Beckett: 56
- Hudson: 20
