Schilling Loses No-Hitter in 9th, Beats A's
I picked a great game to come back to writing my recaps! Boston Red Sox (38-21, 1st in AL East) ace Curt Schilling (W, 6-2) allowed only one hit and two baserunners all game, a single by Shannon Stewart with two outs in the ninth inning and on an error by shortstop Julio Lugo. Oakland A's (31-28, 3rd in AL West) starter Joe Blanton's (L, 5-4) only blemish in 7 1/3 innings was a first inning home run to Red Sox DH David Ortiz, his 11th of the year.
| W: | Curt Schilling | (6-2, 3.49, 0.62) |
| L: | Joe Blanton | (5-4, 3.81, 0.75) |
| S: | N/A | N/A |
Schilling allowed only the one hit in the complete game win, while walking none and striking out 4 A's. Blanton pitched extremely well also, allowing only 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2. Boston snapped a season-long four game losing streak, as Oakland took the first three games of the series.
