In a game that turned out to be not at all a pitcher's duel, New York Yankees starter Randy Johnson lasted just 3.2 innings, giving up five hits and five walks. Boston starter Josh Beckett rebounded well from his recent troubles, with 7IP, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, no walks, and seven strikeouts.

New York took an early lead with a two-run homer by Jason Giambi in the first, but Boston responded in the third, as a series of miscues gave the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. Alex Rodriguez gave up an error, his first of two for the night, leading to the first Boston run, while a wild pitch soon tied the game.

The fourth was just as disastrous for the Yankees, with the bottom of the lineup wreaking havoc on Randy Johnson. Dustan Mohr started things off with a walk, SS Alex Gonzalez singled, a wild pitch, and a Mark Loretta single gave Boston a 5-2 lead. Finally, Aaron Small couldn't contain the damage, as a Melky Cabrera error helped Boston score another two runs.

Nothing got better in the fifth. Another error by A-Rod put Mike Lowell on first, then Trot Nixon walked onto second. Alex Gonzalez's first homer in a Boston uniform made it 10-2 Boston. In the home half of the fifth, Melky Cabrera singled, letting Robinson Cano score.

The next inning gave Boston another homer in the form of Manny Ramirez, making it 11-3 Boston. Then New York managed to stem the bleeding for a few innings - until the ninth rolled around, where Boston scored three more runs, giving the Red Sox two touchdowns.

Rookie closer Jonathan Papelbon did not make an appearance in a game where the Yankees had as many errors as runs; instead Keith Foulke and Rudy Seanez closed things out for Boston. The victory matched Boston's highest run total of the season, gave the Sox a 2-0 series lead for the season, extended their winning streak to five games, and gave them sole possession of first place in the A.L. East. Johnny Damon remained hitless against his former team, going 0-for-3 on the night; Wily Mo Peña played all three outfield positions.

NESN Play of the Game: A-Rod's error in the third that should have been the final out of the inning
NESN Player of the Game: Alex Gonzalez, for his 2-for-4 performance.

With the performance he put on tonight, you wonder if there's something wrong with Johnson....wouldn't surprise me if he made his way to the DL in the not-so-distant future.

As a Sox fan, that's the kind of game I love to see. What's the etiquette around here for editting other's news pages? Is it ok to add the players talked about to the categories section?

I mentioned so many players that I didn't add any, but if you think some should be added, feel free. This was more about the teams and the division than the players, I think

I think wikifying links and adding categories are always welcome to all articles

I added links for the players who hit homers and the two starting pitchers, I think that's good for an article like this. Adding every player I mentioned would be a whole page worth of categories. :)

I was just wondering...When I created news I just put up links to every player I mentioned. But then again, that's probably a bit much. I just like seeing the news for a player when going to their profile.

Yeah, I think it is, if it's more than say half a dozen players per article. Like, I think linking to the Trot Nixon news category would be a bit much, since he was only mentioned in the context of drawing a walk. I think in these recap-type articles, the starting pitchers plus players with homers or some sort of special accomplishment/screw-up deserve mention. I'm debating putting in A-Rod because of his two errors, but not really sure.

So...uh...I found this and I'm not entirely sure that it warranted a new post, but I figured it would find its way onto this site in due time. I'm not really sure what to say about it other than that it was flippin' hilarious. Sox fans, enjoy. http://www.k...m/chokeback/
