In their home opener, the Texas Rangers shut out the visiting Boston Red Sox by a score of 2-0. Robinson Tejeda (1-0) pitched very well, allowing only 2 hits over 7 shutout frames. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (0-1) took the loss for Boston while striking out four.
The Sox offense was anemic at the plate, only managing three hits over the course of the game. Only Coco Crisp made it to second base, with a double off of Tejeda in the 5th. David Ortiz's struggles continued, as he went 0-4 on the day and is managing only a .357 on-base percentage in the young season so far while hitting .133. J.D. Drew chipped in a single and has been one of the Sox' more consistent offensive producers to this point; his .500 on-base percentage so far is second only to rookie Dustin Pedroia.
For the Rangers, Gerald Laird and Sammy Sosa each drove in a run. None of their hitters are hitting particularly well yet in the season (they were swept by the Angels in the first series of the year). Young second baseman Ian Kinsler leads their regulars with a .417 OBP. Texas only managed 3 hits in the game as well, with Mark Teixeira picking up a single along with Laird and Sosa.
These two teams will meet tomorrow at 8:05 ET, with Boston's Julian TAVAREZ (NR) taking on Texas ace Kevin Millwood (0-1).
