The Atlanta Braves are looking to turn around the franchise back to its winning ways. After over a decade of consecutive division championships, the Braves have been falling short of their goals. With increased competition from the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets in the division, coming on top is much more difficult than in the past. If the team can stay healthy this year, they have a shot a competiting for a division title once again.

The Atlanta Braves franchise started in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings of the National Association (as Red Stockings: National Association Champions in 1872, 1873, 1874, and 1875). The team changed its name to the Boston Red Caps and joined the National League in 1876. As the Red Caps, the franchise played from 1876 - 1882, and won two pennants (1877, 1878). From 1883 - 1906, the franchise played as the Boston Beaneaters and won 6 pennants (1883, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1897, and 1898). The franchise stayed in Boston, but changed its name many times. They were the Doves from 1907 to 1910, then were known as the Rustlers in (1911), then became the Braves for the years 1912 to 1935 (which included a World Series win in 1914). From 1936-1940, the team was known as the Boston Bees. In 1941, the team returned to the Boston Braves name and won the National League title, but lost the World Series crown in 1948. They last played as the Boston Braves in 1952. The franchise then left Boston and settled in Milwaukee as the Braves, and played in Milwaukee from 1953 until 1965 and won 1 World Championship (1957), and two pennants (1957 & 1958). In 1966, the team moved to Atlanta. The franchise has won 1 World Championship (1995), and 5 pennants (1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, and 1999) as the Atlanta Braves.
