The rubber game of the series between two teams who shared a city for fifty plus years was not what most people expected, and if you are a Braves fan not what you wanted. However for the Red Sox fan after the news of Curt Schilling traveling to the disabled list it was just what the doctor ordered. J.D. Drew led the game off in style taking Atlanta pitcher Carlyle to deep right center for the games first hit and first run. Dustin Pedroia doubled on the next pitch, scorching the ball to right field. Manny Rameriaz came up with one out and one on after Ortiz struck out and drove the rookie second baseman home on a double of his own. After an intentional walk to the captain Jason Varitek, Coco Crisp continued his hot bat with a three run homer to right. Taveraz came out of the Boston dugout with a five run lead and sat down the first three Braves he faced. He struck out Kelly Johnson and then made former Red Sox’s Willie Harris and Edgar Renteria fly out. In the Sox second David Ortiz drove a homer of his own over the wall with J.D. Drew on second. After a Manny single and a Youk single Varitek bounced into a double play to end the inning. And Taveraz came out to have three men came to bat and record three outs. Buddy Carlyle was replace in the fourth with two outs after he walked Kevin Youkillis to load the bases. Varitek was then struck out to end the threat. The Red Sox also got a homerun from Eric Hinske later in the game The offense finished the night with a total of eleven runs and fifteen hits off the Atlanta pitchers, whose team managed no runs on five hits. Taveraz had his best performance of the year going seven innings while allowing only three hits and one walk to go along with his four strike outs. However on the offensive side he also struck out twice. The Red Sox have a day off and then will be matched up against the San Diego Padres.
