Born on July 1, 1915 in Williamsport, Maryland, Boots Poffenberger (Cletus Elwood Poffenberger) played for the Detroit Tigers and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 3 year career. Poffenberger broke into the bigs on June 11, 1937 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.65 ERA in 137.1 innings pitched in 1937, his rookie year.
