Born on October 16, 1904 in Decatur, Illinois, Boom-Boom Beck (Walter William Beck) played for the St. Louis Browns, Brooklyn Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 12 year career. Beck broke into the bigs on September 22, 1924 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 3.54 ERA in 257 innings pitched in 1933, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Boom-Boom Beck's best season was 1933, when he posted a 3.54 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 89 batters.
