And heed the warning boy, you know the rules!
There have been many of these rules to be sports fans listed on sports sites like here and here. To me there are so many more important rules that we should follow.
… ah one two and you don’t stop …
•1) Only wear a sports jersey when that sport is in season. If it is January put away your Derek Jeter jersey, there are three other sports going on right now.
•2) When your favorite team gets eliminated from the playoffs you should wear an article of clothing that has their name or emblem on it the next day. We all claim to live and die with our teams, and associate with them for months each season we should therefore show off to others that we still support them.
Personal story: The day after Game 5 of the World Series I wore an Al Leiter #22 shirt jersey to high school knowing that all the Yankee fans would mock me and the Amazin’s. Luckily for me it was Parent-Teacher afternoon and we had a half day
… ah three four and ya don’t stop
•3) If you claim to be a big fan of an NFL team you should be able to name the 5 starters on the offensive line. It annoys me to no end when I talk to fans of the Giants and I ask them, “Who’s on the O-line?” and the only one they know is the Coughlin’s son-in-law. Any idiot could know Eli and Strahan, but to be a true fan you should know McKenizie, Snee, O’Hara, Seubert, and Diehl.
•4) When your team has a messy divorce with a player and everyone sides with the team, you can’t wear that player’s paraphernalia anymore. Of course, if the player and team reconcile you can wear the stuff again. Met fans hate Al Leiter for the way he exited, now no one can wear his stuff anymore. Same thing with Tiki Barber who is now getting vilified by the New York press
… ah five six and ya don’t stop
•5) When you go to a game of your favorite team, do not wear anything cheap looking with your team’s name on it. You are representing your team do it with pride. Want to wear a cheap looking shirt when you are working out? Fine but not at the stadium.
•6) Remember when your team is doing badly, your team will eventually get better and the bad years will be worthwhile. The best years are better when you live through the bad ones, I think we forget it when we are in the midst of a 70 win baseball season, a 65 point hockey season, a 35 win basketball season or a 6 win football season
