Bones Ely (William Frederick Ely) was born on June 7, 1863 in North Girard, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on June 19, 1884 for the Buffalo Bisons. In 1890, his rookie year, he hit .262 with 0 home runs and 64 RBI. Ely played for the Buffalo Bisons, Louisville Colonels, [[]], Brooklyn Bridegrooms, St. Louis Perfectos, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Athletics and Washington Senators over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Bones Ely's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1894, when he hit for a .306 average and knocked in 89 runs. However, others believe that it was 1890, when he stole 44 bases and knocked in 64 runs.
