11

Oh Barry, please just fade into obscurity now and leave it alone. If you go into hiding this will all fade away. Stop trying to defend yourself, it's not going to work.

He had to sue otherwise he was just accpeting it. I am going to go out on a limb and say that as a public figure he stands little to no chance of winning any lawsuit.

right. as long as he is suing, then he can continue to claim that he didnt do anything. no one will believe him, but it means that major league baseball cant stop him from passing bonds, as this trial will continue for a while. our only hope is that baseball will watch him well enough to prevent him from using steroids this year, and hopefully from passing aaron...

To me this just screams admitting guilt. If he didn't do it then what is he so worried about? He could settle it all and volunatarily take a test right now but we all know that won't happen.

How would taking a test today prove he didn't take steroids in 1999? Bonds has nothing to gain from submitting to a test outside of the ones administered to him all last year and all this year from the MLB.

The key fact here is the lawsuit is not a libel suit, but is rather alleging that the authors broke the law by disclosing unsealed grand jury testimony (among other things). This is basically an admission by Bonds that he can't disprove the authors' allegations of steroid use. This move is simply a way for Bonds to attempt to inflict some pain on these guys and make their lives more difficult.

The grand jury suit is ridiculous; the revelation of the information by the person directly involved with the grand jury might be illegal, yes. However, no grand jury gag order extends to the whole world - if someone leaks the info, then it's published, you can prosecute the source of the leak, not the publisher. At least that's my understanding of the law. All this lawsuit will do, in the end, is increase sales of the book.

Yeah, the fact that he's not suing for libel, but rather seeking an injunction under the Unfair Competition Law, means that he's practically admitting guilt. His team knows that if they went the libel route, Bonds would very likely be forced to take the stand, and that's the last thing they want. Whether he's already perjured himself or not is debatable, but the book seems pretty ironclad, what with the endnotes and all. But the 1st Amendment protects Fainaru-Wada and Williams, and the leak source can't be identified. So Bonds has no case.

Steroid enhanced records-cheating- won't be tolerated by MLB, but MLB will look the other way in certain cases.
