Bonds Hits No. 715

8
Vote

Barry Bonds finally hit his 715th career home run on Sunday, passing Babe Ruth for second on the all-time list.

At 2:14 p.m., in front of his home crowd at AT&T Park, Bonds took Colorado's Byung-Hyun Kim deep to center field, raising his arms almost immediately to indicate that he knew it was gone. The ball went 445 feet, and was caught by a fan who was literally buying a hot dog at the time, as it rolled off a roof in center before finally coming to a rest.

Bonds still trails all-time career HR leader Hank Aaron by 40 home runs.

That ball was definitely more than he thought he was getting with the 8 bucks the hot dog cost.

Hey, at least BH Kim will have a place in the record books now, other than "Closer who gave up the most leads in playoff series." Now that Barry's done it, can I watch ESPN News for the next three months without seeing every damn at-bat, do you suppose?

Yawn! I see no reason to pay any honors to someone who has cheated himself out of real respect. He was a great player once...

Exactly. He's gone from Ty Cobb (great playing jerk) to Shoeless Joe (ruiner of the game's integrity).

It's a bit stupid seeing every single Bonds at-bat, and I'm sure everyone is relieved they don't have to put up with it until he gets to about 750. That'll probably be next year though, I can't see him hitting the 40 HRs he needs in the next four months.

Don't insult shoeless Joe like that. There is no evidence that he actually harmed the game's integrity.

Ty Cobb is in the same boat as Shoeless Joe...Cobb was acquited when there was no hard evidence, but he was accused of throwing games during his career

I was referring to the comparison between Bonds and Jackson. There is no evidence SHOELESS JOE ruined the games integrity, but we see evidence with each AB that Bonds did.

Still, Cobb is in the Hall isn't he? No, they're not in the same boat.

He's in the Hall because he was acquited. There's no evidence that he did anything, just a lot of suspicion. Cobb and Jackson may not be on the same level (and neither one of them are as bad as Bonds), but Cobb is probably more than just another jerk.
