On October 5, 2001, in the first inning, San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds hit home run #71 of the season in San Francisco off the Dodgers' Chan Ho Park, breaking Mark McGwire's single-season record. He then tacked on another in the third. Bonds would hit one more homer before the season ended, ending the season with 73.
Home run #71 was on Bonds' first swing since hitting #70.
