Bonds Expected to be Indicted

13
Vote

MLB officials leaked that San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds will be indicted on charges of perjury and tax evasion. The indictment will come as early as next week, after the grand jury hears evidence against Bonds. Sources also reported that the MLB conducted their own internal investigation into Bonds last year and found evidence of wrongdoing.

thanks for breaking the Capone story... Feds don't 'get' you on tax evasion, the IRS does.

and he'll get in more trouble for the perjury. Any tax problem he has, he can surely handle - at worst he gets easier prison time shorter than Martha Stewart for sure...

The tax stuff he'll get past easily and the perjury charge won't stick I think. He'll pay a fine and the taxes he owes and get a slap on the wrist. No way is he doing ANY jail time.

How long did Pete Rose spend in jail because of Tax Invasion. Bonds is not going to get off with just paying a fine....

Pete Rose was also busted for money laundering (trafficking cocaine, but only getting caught with the proceeds, not the product)

The IRS is the Feds, Manny. Hate to break it to you. Federal agency, thus they're the Feds.

The IRS' warrants are served by Treasury Agents, who are also Federal Agents, A.K.A. "Feds". So IRS = "Feds"

I doubt it. he won't be a first ballot HOF'er, that is for sure. But he will get in eventually.

he was a first ballot HOFer before 1998 when all his 'Performance Enhancement' stuff started

But his actions since 1998 has been disgraceful. Both to himself and to baseball. THe proper punishment would be to withhold his entry into Copperstown for a few years.

It's called the Hall of Fame, not the "Hall of We'll Show You"

Being a lifelong Reds fan, my opinion towards the HOF obviously is jaded. It is designed to commemorate a persons abilities on the baseball diamond, whether that be playing, managing, announcing, or writing about it, its isn't about who builds the most Habitat for Humanity houses, or who kisses the most babies. Build another building, no where near Cooperstown, and call it the Humanitarian Hall of Fame, and devote it to those athletes that people like hearing about, and want to be friends with, and make you feel good all over when they smile. Keep the MLB HOF for quality baseball people. Pete Rose, as a player, belongs. Barry Bonds, as a player, belongs. He outperformed everyone during his time, and he certainly wasn't the only player on steroids. Thereby, he belongs in the Hall of Fame. The things he or Rose have done can't hold a candle to some of the dastardly acts that HOFers have committed in the past.

I totally agree - it's the Professional Baseball Hall of Fame, Not the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame - it's about what you do in baseball that gets you in the Hall

You also need to remember that there is a character requirement attach to admission to the Hall.

Too bad he couldn't be honest and live up to what he did. It's sad he has to go down this way. Pride is a bad, bad thing.

A few months ago a top executive from the Commissioners office was qouted as saying, Trust me, Barry Bonds will never break Hank Aaron's record, MLB will make sure of that. (I paraphrase) I'll try to find the exact qoute and post it if I can. This whole Bonds affair has been a railroad job ever since the congressional hearings. Bonds is MLB's Martha Stewart.

No, Martha angerd the NASD because she had a seat on the the market floor, and DEFINITELY should have known better. She was inside the business. Martha getting busted is more akin to a team owner getting busted.
