In a rematch of last year's thrilling meeting between the 700-HR hitter, and 300-game winner, Greg Maddux got the best of Barry Bonds once again. In the 6th inning, Bonds hit a towering shot which immediately had the look of being gone, even bringing out that famous glare in Barry; yet the cavernous Petco Park held him in, just at the wall, where Brian Giles was able to make the catch below the scoreboard in right field. Maddux pitched six shut-out innings in a classic performance, giving up six hits while striking out six with surgeon-like efficiency. Meanwhile, a productive night by the Giles brothers, coupled with the clutch pitching performance, gave the Padres their sixth win of the season pulling them within a half game of the NL West leading D-Backs. The Padres will start a three-game series with the Dodgers on Friday (including the Sunday night "Jackie Robinson Game" in primetime on ESPN), before heading to Chicago on Monday to face the Cubs.
