Born on August 11, 1907 in Hartsville, South Carolina, Bobo Newsom (Louis Norman Newsom) played for the Brooklyn Robins, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Brooklyn Dodgers, Philadelphia Athletics, New York Yankees and New York Giants over the course of his 20 year career. Newsom broke into the bigs on September 11, 1929 with the Brooklyn Robins, and put up a 4.01 ERA in 262.1 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bobo Newsom's best season was 1940, when he posted a 2.83 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 164 batters.
