Bobbyjim45's HOF

11

by user Bobbyjim45

I liked Joebook's idea for creating the HOF by using only the top ten players in each position, so I decided to try it myself. I didn't use Negro League players or anybody who didn't play in the MLB. Both longevity and a player's career peaks were taken into consideration. For example, Warren Spahn made the list because he was a great pitcher for so long, while Sandy Koufax made the list because he was absolutely dominant in his peak, even though it was a short period of time. I also took into consideration all relief pitchers instead of just closers who accumulated saves. Here it is, so enjoy and, please, go ahead and tear it apart and tell me how much I suck (or tell me what a great knack I have for picking out great baseball players and how that, combined with my devilish good looks, makes me a can't-miss prospect for the ladies...).

Nice list. My only beef is if you are going to put Sandy Koufax in becuase of his dominant peak stretch, you have to put Pedro Martinez in because is peak was as good (if not better) and his career numbers are better.

Yeah, Pedro and the Unit are the two starters I hated to leave off, but I just couldn't fit them in anywhere. There are a lot of worthy guys there.

I think the Big Unit could, and should, replace Nolan Ryan.

Koufax not on there? In his best years (since you brought up pedro) there's never been anyone better...except pedro.

Agreed with the sentiments... Pedro should definitely be on there. Big Unit I could take or leave as a top 10 pitcher all-time, but I wouldn't argue either way... Nice list all-around.

I think of Rose as a better 2B than OF, he played every outfield position, not just left. Lou Brock has no business on any top 10 list. He only played a long time, was caught stealing way too much and was good at best. Longevity is overrated. How can you have Yaz and not McCovey? I guess that's what makes this your list and not mine (I would have added Negro leaguers)

Manny, why wouldn't he have Yaz over mccovey. Yaz clearly was a better all around player than McCovey.

Yaz is overrated, fact. Longevity was his only fine attribute.

I like this list, although I have a hard time with a few players. I can't put Eddie Murray as the #3 first basemen. Not even close. Secondly, I still believe that Griffey in his prime was one of the 10 best players ever, and if you are going to rank Koufax that high, Griffey has to be near the top. He was the best centerfielder in baseball for 10 years. Otherwise, this is pretty close. My rankings are a little different, but a lot of the names are the same.

Griffey could've gone anywhere between 6-8 as it was a toss up between those three. There's no way he was going ahead of DiMaggio or Speaker. Who do you put above Murray?

Derek Jeter has got to be on that list! That's my only beef.

How about Jim Thome over Bagwell at first? Thome's career numbers will be much better than Bagwell's when he is done.
