Bobby Sippio
Robert Lee Sippio, Jr. (born December 4, 1980 in Orlando, Florida) is an American football wide receiver who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He previously spent five seasons in the Arena Football League.
Career
College
Sippio played college football at Western Kentucky University for three seasons. He attended Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida where he played football and basketball. He wore number 12 on the football team and played quarterback along with former Chief, Brett Williams.
AFL Career
2004
Sippio played in 15 games as a rookie with the Dallas Desperados, catching 75 passes for 1,217 yards and 32 touchdowns, and recording 25.0 tackles, 2 interceptions and 3 passes broken up. He made his Arena Football League debut February 8 vs. the Carolina Cobras, catching 4 passes for 78 yards and 2 TDs. He was named co-Offensive Player of the Game March 6 vs. the Grand Rapids Rampage after catching 6 passes for 116 yards and 3 touchdowns.
2005
Sippio played in 16 games in his second season with Dallas, recording 61 receptions for 863 yards and 22 touchdowns and added 30.5 tackles, 2 interceptions and 9 passes broken up. He scored touchdowns in five different ways during the season – receiving, rushing, interception return, fumble return and kickoff return.
2006
Sippio played in nine games for the Tampa Bay Storm, catching 55 passes for 666 yards and 18 touchdowns, before being released March 28 and claimed by the Chicago Rush on March 29. He finished the 2006 season with 93 catches for 1320 yards and 35 touchdowns. Sippio posted a season high 10 catches for 136 yards and 2 TDs vs. the Orlando Predators on February 19. Sippio was one of the key ingredients in the Chicago Rush's win of ArenaBowl XX. He was one of the hottest players on the team, recording many of the playoff receptions.
2007
Sippio lead the AFL with 53 TD's and 318 points for the Rush. After the season, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on August 12, 2007. Sippio's signing appeared on HBO's Hard Knocks, a program showcasing NFL training camps. On September 1, 2007 the Chiefs made their final cuts to 53, and Sippio beat the odds and made the final roster. However, Sippio was cut on September 2, 2007 to make room for Tyler Thigpen.[1] The following day, Sippio was added to the Chiefs practice squad. Sippio was brought up to the active roster on September 11, 2007 to replace Eddie Kennison who suffered a hamstring injury. [2]
Family
Sippio is a second cousin of Chiefs rookie wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. Sippio currently resides with Bowe in his Kansas City home.
