Born on December 11, 1954 in Neptune, New Jersey, Bob Sykes (Robert Joseph Sykes) played for the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 5 year career. Sykes broke into the bigs on April 9, 1977 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.41 ERA in 132.2 innings pitched in 1977, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bob Sykes's best season was 1978, when he posted a 3.94 ERA and struck out 58 batters.
