Born on September 12, 1884 in Belleville, Illinois, Bob Groom (Robert Groom) played for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Terriers, St. Louis Browns and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 10 year career. Groom broke into the bigs on April 13, 1909 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 2.87 ERA in 260.2 innings pitched in 1909, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bob Groom's best season was 1912, when he posted a 2.62 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 179 batters.
