Born on October 8, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio, Bob Gillespie (Robert William Gillespie) played for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 4 year career. Gillespie broke into the bigs on May 11, 1944 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.73 ERA in 118 innings pitched in 1947, his rookie year.
