Born on December 12, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, Bob Carpenter (Robert Louis Carpenter) played for the New York Giants and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 5 year career. Carpenter broke into the bigs on September 12, 1940 with the New York Giants, and put up a 3.83 ERA in 131.2 innings pitched in 1941, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bob Carpenter's best season was 1942, when he posted a 3.15 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 53 batters.
