[edit] Brief Franchise History

[edit] On The Field

The Barracudas had an experienced Head Coach in Jack Pardee, who had coached at the college level with the University of Houston and at the professional level with the WFL, the USFL and the NFL. The Barracudas were also led by veteran CFL quarterback, Matt Dunigan, which proved to be successful for the team. They played their first game July 4, 1995, versus the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Winnipeg. The Barracudas finished the regular season in third place of the Southern Division Standings, with a 10-8-0 record. In the Grey Cup playoffs, the Barracudas lost to the San Antonio Texans, 52-9, in the Southern Divisional Semi-Finals, ending their first and only playoff run.

[edit] Off The Field

The attendance at Legion Field was decent earlier in the year, but it eventually dropped, during the start of the college football season. The team average attendance for the 1995 season was at 16,843.

Owner, Art Williams was quoted, that he was probably losing between 4 to 6 million dollars (US) on the team, however, outside sources quoted the losses at around 10 million dollars (US).

[edit] In The End

The loss of revenue caused the franchise to fold after its first season of play in 1995, along with the other American teams of the Canadian Football League (with the exception of the Baltimore Stallions who moved to Montreal to become the new, "Alouettes").
