Bipolar Phils Can't Get a Break

Well, what could have been a very promising start for Phillies ace Cole Hamels went wrong from the start. Hamels, who before last night never gave up more runs than innings pitched, gave up three in the first inning, and went on to give up three more through five innings, a total of six earned runs on the night. Rookie Kyle Kendrick is the projected starter tonight after a very impressive outing versus the Chicago White Sox, giving up only three runs in six innings, he goes up against Jason Stanford who, in a win Vs the Marlins, had 7k's and no walks. The Phils however have this to look forward to, a month ago they were 8 games behind the mets in the NL East, today, that has shrunk to 3.

Well...as the mets get to face more of playoff teams from last year, the phillies get the struggling cards and reds after the indians...that may shift the lead before the phils and mets meet for 4 games at the bank

I have many friends who are Phillies fans and it seems that you guys are just as frustrated as us O's fans! I can understand that considering all the talent on the Phills, but the Mets are sliding and you guys should be good for a wild card spot if the NL west cools down

I'd agree, but the west has 3 dangerous teams (Like the d-backs who swept us recently)...it's going to be tough to get in the playoffs for just about anyone except the brewers...

well, with the O's recent firing of their manager, i wouldn't put us in that same level of frustration, Charlie Manuel has a good handle on things so i wouldn't expect to see him go anytime soon.

If the phillies don't make the playoffs this year, Charlie Manuel will not be managing in Philly next year...if things go down hill fast in philly, Jimy Williams will be managing before the season ends...

Manuel will remain the manager thru the remainder of this season. If he wasn't fired in the dozen chances that already passed, why would he now? Manuel is a good ole boy in an organization that still follows the good ole boy rules.

Phillies are still close to the Braves and Mets so wouldn't be surprised to see them in first. Phillies have worked to hard to get where they are now. They just need bigger leads before turning games over to bullpen.
