Billy Shindle (William D. Shindle) was born on December 5, 1860 in Gloucester, New Jersey. He made his Major League debut on October 5, 1886 for the Detroit Wolverines. In 1888, his rookie year, he hit .208 with 1 home run and 53 RBI. Shindle played for the Detroit Wolverines, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies and Brooklyn Bridegrooms over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Billy Shindle's best season was 1890, when he stole 51 bases, hit for a .324 average and knocked in 90 runs.
