Billy Shields (William Dean Shields) was born on August 23, 1953 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After going to high school at Banks (Birmingham, AL), Shields attended Georgia Institure of Technology. Shields made his professional debut in the NFL in 1975 with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the San Diego Chargers, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers over the course of his 11 year career.
