Billy Rohr
[edit] Biography
Born on July 1, 1945 in San Diego, California, Billy Rohr (William Joseph Rohr) played for the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 2 year career. Rohr broke into the bigs on April 14, 1967 with the Boston Red Sox.
In his very first start, he pitched 8 2/3 hitless innings at Yankee Stadium before his no-no was spoiled by a line drive. Earlier in the game, Carl Yastrzemski had made a spectacular diving catch to preserve the no-hitter. The call - "Fly ball to deep left, Yastrzemski's going hard, way back, way back, and he dives and makes a TREMENDOUS CATCH!" was featured in Boston radio station WEEI's pregame audio montage until at least 2004.
