Billy Paultz

Billy Paultz was a 6' 11 260-pound Long Islander who starred in the ABA, and later played in the NBA as well during his long pro career. Known as " The Whopper ", Paultz attended St. John's University under coach Lou Carnesecca. Carnesecca later coached asa New York Net as well. Paultz was probably the best-known of those in the supporting cast of Net superstar Julius Erving. At center, he was somewhat floor-bound, but very strong, very smart on the court and very skilled. Paultz often rated highly in field goal percentages and rebounds in the ABA. After the ABA ended in 1976, Paultz still had plenty to offer the NBA as a skilled back up.
