Born on December 13, 1929 in Long Island City, New York, Billy Loes (William Loes) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 11 year career. Loes broke into the bigs on May 18, 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and put up a 2.69 ERA in 187.1 innings pitched in 1952, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Billy Loes's best season was 1952, when he posted a 2.69 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 115 batters.
