Born on May 17, 1932 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Billy Hoeft (William Frederick Hoeft) played for the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Braves and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 15 year career. Hoeft broke into the bigs on April 18, 1952 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.32 ERA in 125 innings pitched in 1952, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Billy Hoeft's best season was 1956, when he posted a 4.06 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 172 batters.
