Billy Hitchcock (William Clyde Hitchcock) was born on July 31, 1916 in Inverness, Alabama. He made his Major League debut on April 14, 1942 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1942, his rookie year, he hit .211 with 0 home runs and 29 RBI. Hitchcock played for the Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics over the course of his 9 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Billy Hitchcock's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1950, when he knocked in 54 runs. However, others believe that it was 1952, when he knocked in 56 runs.
