Billy Hamilton (William Robert Hamilton) was born on February 16, 1866 in Newark, New Jersey. He made his Major League debut on July 31, 1888 for the Kansas City Cowboys. In 1889, his rookie year, he hit .301 with 3 home runs and 77 RBI. Hamilton played for the Kansas City Cowboys, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Beaneaters over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that Billy Hamilton's best season was 1894, when he stole 98 bases, hit for a .404 average and knocked in 87 runs.
