Born on August 8, 1865 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Billy Gumbert (William Skeen Gumbert) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Louisville Colonels over the course of his 3 year career. Gumbert broke into the bigs on June 19, 1890 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 5.22 ERA in 79.1 innings pitched in 1890, his rookie year.
