Billy Gilbert (William Oliver Gilbert) was born on June 21, 1876 in Tullytown, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on April 25, 1901 for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 1901, his rookie year, he hit .270 with 0 home runs and 43 RBI. Gilbert played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 8 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Billy Gilbert's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1904, when he stole 33 bases and knocked in 54 runs. However, others believe that it was 1902, when he stole 38 bases.
