Billy Gambrell (William Edward Gambrell) was born on September 18, 1941 in Athens, Georgia. After going to high school at Athens (GA), Gambrell attended the University of South Carolina. Gambrell made his professional debut in the NFL in 1963 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Lions over the course of his 6 year career.
