[edit] Biography

Born on April 12, 1922 in Rio Vista, California, Bill Wight (William Robert Wight) played for the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 12 year career. Wight broke into the bigs on April 17, 1946 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 4.80 ERA in 223.1 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Bill Wight's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1949, when he posted a 3.31 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 78 batters. However, others believe that it was 1955, when he posted a 2.48 ERA and struck out 63 batters.
